Samaritan Hospital in Troy contracts for 2 "surgicalists" with a weeklong schedule

TROY -- It's not a schedule most workers -- much less doctors -- would chose: 168 hours on, 168 hours off.
But for the two new newest surgeons at Samaritan Hospital, their weeklong schedule means freedom: from paperwork, from malpractice worries and from the hassles of running their own office.

Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y., has contracted with Delphi Healthcare Partners Inc., a Durham, N.C., contract medical management firm, for surgicalist services.
A surgicalist is a hospital-based general surgeon who is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They may perform surgery when a patient does not have a surgeon or when the patient's surgeon is not available. They may also assist other surgeons, provide consultations to on-call general surgeons, and provide follow-up to patients after surgery.

N.C. firm helps Thomas cover its emergency room

After more than 25 years in private practice, general surgeon Richard Fogle got tired of the office. The paperwork. Dealing with insurance companies. Managing employees.
So when the Knoxville, Tenn., native heard about a position at South Charleston's Thomas Memorial Hospital where he could just see patients in the hospital, he jumped at the chance. Fogle began working at Thomas last month.
